Musings on Truth

Why write about Truth?

The reason for this blog is because we believe such a thing as Truth exists. It exists, not because we say it exists; it exists of its own accord, not in the least dependent on our awareness or acknowledgement of it.

To state it slightly differently, Truth does not exist because Truthscan believes in it. Rather, Truth exists, therefore Truthscan believes in it.

Truth is a Reality external to our consciousness that forces us to submit to its existence. We, on the other hand, exert no such power over it. For Truth will continue to exist long after we are gone.

And it is solely because this external Reality is the only one there is, because it is Truth, we believe it must be defended at all costs.

Why?

Because Truth is good. It’s that simple. Truth is good. Truth enables us to flourish. Truth enables us to progress. Truth opens our eyes to things we were previously blind towards; things we now know to be deplorable, but once upon a time affirmed and embraced with all our hearts.

And because we have the benefit of hindsight which tells us that certain things are indeed wrong and not just wrong in a general, innocuous sense but wrong in a sense that is reprehensible and despicable, we believe Truth must be defended at all costs.

There is a nobility and excellence about Truth that should cause us to affirm it wholeheartedly.

To be sure, Truth can hurt and cause tremendous pain. Truth can (and often does) cause massive offense. We may pay with our lives for upholding this Truth while denouncing the things that masquerade as Truth. But the fact is, we will have sided with Truth and not falsehood. We will have fought in the light against the darkness. And we will have fought for what is good. Not just any good. Not what is subjectively good. Not what is good in a personal, preferential sense. But good that is born from Reality. Goodness that is pure. Goodness that can only defined and quantified in its own terms because there is no other means by which it can be measured except by itself.

This is what this blog is about — the goodness of Reality. Because what is real is necessarily true. And what is true is always good.

So we hope you will read this blog.

Not because you want to be polite.

But because you recognise that Truth exists, that it is precious, and that therefore, owing to its intrinsic value, it must be preserved and protected. Since its preciousness is incomparable, if we lose it then all is lost.

All meaning. All purpose. All ambition. All life. Everything.

Consequently, if truth is to be contended for, then falsehood must be attacked. Vigorously. Consistently. Methodically. Unsparingly. Single-mindedly. Without fear. Without compromise.

This does not mean the attack of people. It means the attack of ideas; ideas that propagate a false notion of Reality.

You know what this implies, right?

It implies that we will be attacking the truths that many people consider to be of great value to them. Simply because while most everyone agrees Truth exists, there is sharp disagreement as to what constitutes the nature of this Truth.

Hence people are bound to feel violated and offended and victimised.

Should we apologise? Should one apologise for defending what is true?

Never.

Why not?

Because Reality does not make any apologies for itself.

It is.

And it is not sorry that it is.

So if Reality is not sorry that it is, should Truthscan be sorry? Should you?

We hope you will recognise this.

We hope you will unite with us.

Not because of some simpering sense of sentimentality.

But because of what is solid and substantial and real.

We don’t care if you disagree with our view of what this Truth is.

But we do hope that you will agree with us that Truth, whatever it may be, must be upheld at all costs.

And that we shouldn’t back down just because someone is offended.

Or because someone’s cultural sensitivities are hurt.

Truth transcends culture.

And if we can recognise that, we’ll be off to a great start.

Yours truthfully,

Truthscan
