Same Sex Marriage should be legalised because
LOVE SHOULD BE RECOGNISED

Argument in favour of Gay Marriage:

Love between human beings is a beautiful bond representing deep and intense feelings and affections. What’s more, as human beings we cannot really control whom we love. Therefore, two human beings, who love each other deeply should have their relationship respected and recognised not only in the eyes of others, but also in the eyes of the law.

The Facts:

Australian law regularly and routinely denies recognition of the following relationships without regard for how much in love the individuals might be with each other:

— Individuals who are already married

— Individuals who want to marry their siblings or parents

— Individual (or guardians) who want to marry their adopted children

— Individuals who are underage

In other words, there are many cases where the love between individuals is not recognised. And it is perfectly legitimate to do so! In other words, there are plenty of cases where there is absolutely no compulsion for love to be recognised. So being head over heels in love is not the only criteria for having a relationship legally recognised.

The Real Issues:

This argument, often trotted out by the gay lobby, is high on emotionalism and sentimentalism while being utterly devoid of fact. The reason it is used is understandable: by presenting the case for same sex marriage on grounds of love, anyone opposed to same sex marriage can easily be dismissed as a “hater”.

Conclusion:

To say that love is the only thing that should count for recognising a relationship is to be terribly naive. Because such an attitude ignores all the relationships that are not recognised regardless of how much in love the individuals might be.
